Religious right in Britain a myth - The Tablet

According to a new report from Theos, the religious think-tank, while Christians may have socially conservative views on gay marriage and abortion, they are on the whole "economically left-wing".

This is particularly the case for Catholics who, according to British Election Survey data, are more likely to be Labour voters.

In Is there a ‘Religious Right' emerging in Britain? Theos points to television programmes such as a Channel 4 Dispatches programme in 2008 that claimed "Britain's hardline Christians are mounting fierce campaigns around a range of issues", and newspaper reports arguing that Britain is seeing the emergence of a religious right.
