An ecumenical body set up to unite Scottish churches in the wake of an historic papal visit almost 40 years ago should be disbanded, according to some senior religious figures.

Action for Churches in Scotland (ACTS), an umbrella body of nine denominations, was set up in 1990 but a report for it by the Theos think tank shows support for the “super–structure” has severely waned.
